Description
Teachers of emergent bilinguals! Explicitly teach vocabulary each week in Grades 3-8 with this template! Simply target 5 words you have taught your learners and choose pictures from Google images representing the meaning of each word. First, your students have to match the English word to its picture and translate it into the Home Language. Next, insert a passage from your text containing the words so they can practice listening and annotating. Finally, have your students write a sentence in both English and Home Language.
Differentiate this worksheet by including less words, a shorter text, and only one sentence prompt or sentence stem/frame for your beginners, and more words, a longer text, and additional sentences for your more proficient learners.
PreK-2 teachers! Adjust this worksheet for your little ones by removing translation prompts, and parts 2 and 3 if necessary. Simply have students match the word to its picture. Students can “annotate” by raising their hands when they hear the word as you read aloud. Finally, they can create sentences orally.
This activity can be used as an end-of-week assessment to see how well your students have learned the vocabulary. Use the images you select in your lessons repeatedly so students have multiple exposures to the word and its meaning.
